Jennifer Small is a fifth-generation resident of the Berrima District. She trained as a High School Art Teacher, then travelled and stufied extensively overseas before settling into a career in Molluska and Lepadoptera (shells and butterflies). A long-standing friendship with artist Paul Jones led to further studies in Europe on the subject of Botanical Art, exhibitions of works in both London and Sydney, and International Commissions. A recent top-up course at The Royal Botanic Gardens Sydney in Scientific Illustrations has added another level to Jennifer's expertise. Her work is represented in collections in Australia, South Africa, USA and England, including the Hunt Institute for Botanical Documentation USA, the James Hardie Botanic Library Queensland, and the private collections of Mr. & Mrs. Paul Treuen, Jan & Trevor Weekes, John & Anna Clayton, Mrs. Virginia Lamont, Mr. Douglas Fogg, the Phi Family Collection, and Lance Moore. Jennifer has been commissioned by The National Trust of Australia, The Cottage Berrima, Marine Specimens Sydney, and Of Sea and Shore USA. Her most recent showings were at Kennerton Green, Mittagong, and Botanica 2003 Sydney. Jennifer is a highly creative artist able to work and teach in a diverse range of media. She is aware of modern trends and in constant pursuit of further knowledge, her main study in recent years has been Chinese and Japanese Art in relation to Nature. |
