Exhibition of work by Justin Pearson
Justin Pearson was born in New Zealand and had his formal art education in London. He has had a life-time love of opera, being raised in a family of opera lovers/singers and attending his first performance at the age of seven. More recently he has been invited to attend dress rehearsals of Opera Australia where he sketched and painted the artists and performances in order to capture the emotional content. Many of these works were later auctioned to raise funds for the Opera Company.
This exhibition contains many of the sketches mentioned above and some large oil paintings inspired by the operas of Wagner, Mozart and Offenbach, including depictions of the Teutonic myths that inspired much of Wagner’s works. There is also a room of exquisite smaller portraits of composers both ancient and modern. The whole exhibition is vivid and colourful whilst showing Justin’s usual energetic and whimsical style.
